Kim Haus, The Perfect Blend of Cafe, Bar and Hotel in Penang

Kim Haus, which is a cafe, a bar and also a hotel situated right in the heart of Campbell street, Penang, Malaysia. If you are traveling to Penang soon and you are looking for a strategic place to stay. Kim Haus Loft is definitely a perfect option. Not to mention, it also has a cafe that serves an extensive array of scrumptious fusion food and a bar where you could enjoy your favourite cocktail while listening to amazing music live performance (best of both worlds)!

P.S. Don’t be a stranger, let’s connect on Instagram as well!

Kim Haus Cafe

Upon entering, you will spot a Pinterest worthy, black metal “billboard” where paper signage are secured with wooden clothes pegs. Pretty creative isn’t it. And for those who enjoy having meals outdoor, this would make the perfect spot.

The moment you enter the space, it is truly a sensory overload from sight to smell. You must be thinking what smell? Food? It is the aroma of freshly-baked bread wafting through the air which has the power to make your mouth water! Visit Kim Haus around noon for their fresh batch of pastries and bread which range from Low GI, Multi-Grain, Rye loaves, Scottish Scones to Danish Pastries.

In terms of the interior design, I am really impressed with the effort put in every single corner. From the boldness in using black as the theme colour, industrial accent white brick walls, discarded wooden crates as tables,  chairs in various colors, unique mural arts, to vintage music player and a hammock that allows you to chill! Everything has their strong distinct accents yet they complement each other so well!

One of Kim Haus’s fortes is definitely its Goldsmith Museum. The goldsmith museum offers an array of vintage goldsmith tools from different parts of the world.  The goldsmith museum is evidently the historical representation of the building as it was once a well-known jewelry store in Penang.

Did I mention that Kim Haus has the biggest vault room in Penang, and it has been utilised as a private dining room which decked with luxurious decor. And this turned out to be my favourite spot to dine as well (go see it yourself and you will know why).

*** I just want to take a moment to thank Kim Haus for inviting me to try out their food and write a review on it. However, I will not be bias on my reviews.

Guess what tea is this? It’s Seri Kaya Tea! I am pretty conservative when comes to tea flavour as I prefer those classic tea such as Camomile and Earl Grey. However, this Kaya Tea definitely turns the table. The ingredients including roasted green tea, cinnamon, pandan leaves and osmanthus. If you are bold enough, they even have our Malaysians’ pride, Nasi Lemak Tea! According to Kim Haus, they were also surprised that the amount of customers being drawn to it and love it.

For the starter, Kim Haus served me with their freshly baked Low GI Loaf. The freshly baked bread is made of low glycemic index flour. Hence, it is perfect for health conscious individuals and also those who are looking to control insulin, blood sugar or even weight. I love how they served it with  balsamic vinaigrette and olive oil. Personally, I love to dip the bread in Kim Haus’s pumpkin soup.

Walaa, this is the roasted pumpkin soup which I have mentioned earlier. I am more a mushroom soup person but I don’t mind to have a second bowl of this which served with crispy crouton.

My ultimate favourite dish among the ones I tried is this plate of goodness, Authentic Chicken Roti. This classic Malaysian dish is a chicken bread served with spicy tangy sauce and a Haus twist. Not only, it tastes utterly delicious, it also reminds me of childhood! Make sure you dip that bread in the sauce.

One of the highlights is definitely Kim Haus’ traditional chicken masala which served in our granny’s era tiffin carrier. The presentation of this dish is so Instagram worthy! There are a total of three tiers, one consists of steamed white rice, one comes with crispy Indian cracker, one the last one comes with their signature’s boneless chicken cooked in masala gravy.

Traditional Chicken Masala costs RM19.90

Lastly, I finished off my meal with a dessert, Apple Crumble which served with a scoop of Vanilla Ice-Cream. The portion is really generous so it is perfect to be shared among your family or friends after your meal.
